
Dennis J. Phillips, M.D. attended Marietta College for undergraduate studies with a degree in biochemistry. He attended medical school at MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine, now Drexel University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in general surgery at Allegheny General Hospital here in Pittsburgh. He then attended the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans Charity Hospital to complete his orthopaedic surgery training. Following that, he was awarded a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, knee and shoulder reconstruction, orthopaedic research of Virginia under the training of Dr. Dick Caspari and Dr. Terry Whipple. During his fellowship, he had the opportunity to work with a variety of sports teams, including high school, collegiate, and at the professional level.
Following the fellowship, Dr. Phillips went back to the Louisiana State University where he was on staff for three years and then he returned to Pittsburgh where he is now the Director of Reconstructive and Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery.
Dr. Phillips continues to be active academically, training residents and fellows in the areas of orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine, and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. He has presented and published his research at the national level and continues to teach other orthopaedic surgeons at national meetings. Dr. Phillips is currently seeing patients in the Pittsburgh area.
He has offices in Bethel Park at South Hills Village, Robinson Township, Wexford, and the main office at Allegheny General Hospital. He is the team physician for the Pittsburgh Pirates, as well as several high schools in the region. He resides in the South Hills of Pittsburgh with his wife, Susan, and their seven children.
