
Stephanie Schneck-Jacob, M.D., specializes in pediatric orthopedic surgery and has been in practice in the Pittsburgh region since 1993. Her special interests include clubfoot and other congenital foot deformities, scoliosis, hip disorders, spina bifida, and traumatic injuries. She sees children and adolescents from the newborn period to 16 years of age.
Dr. Schneck-Jacob graduated summa cum laude from Temple University and then went on to medical school also at Temple. After completing a rotation at the Shriner's Hospital in Philadelphia, her interest in pediatric orthopedic surgery was sparked. She graduated with honors from Temple Medical School and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Her internship and residency was completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 1992. During that time Dr. Schneck-Jacob was also a research fellow investigating compartment syndrome and shoulder anatomy and she presented her findings at national meetings and published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. For an additional year she was a fellow at the Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center in Atlanta under the tutelage of fellowship director Dr. Raymond Morrisy.
Dr. Schneck-Jacob has been practicing pediatric orthopedic surgery in the Pittsburgh area since completing her fellowship training. Early on she developed an interest in children with spina bifida and other neuromuscular disorders and served as Medical Director of the Spina Bifida Center from 1998 - 2003. Her interest in spina bifida continues as she has served as a board member of the Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania since 2002.
Dr. Schneck-Jacob remains academically involved in the teaching of orthopedic residents. She also strives to deepen her knowledge of new techniques in the field of pediatric orthopedics by spending time personally with Dr. Ignacio Ponseti (clubfoot treatment), Dr. Randal Betz (growing rods in early onset scoliosis), and Dr. Luciano Dias (orthopedic treatment of spina bifida). She is active in the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and regularly attends national conferences.
