Main OR
The main operating room consists of 27 surgical suites. On any given day there are between four and six Orthopedic attendings operating. In general, each attending schedules five to ten cases each operative day, not including trauma and add-ons.
Turn over time varies with the type of case but averages 30-45 minutes, allowing ample time for post-op checks, last minute reading, orders, consults, or lunch.
Allegheny Outpaient Surgery Center
The Allegheny Outpatient Surgery Center (AOSC) is a 7 suite surgery center located on the 01 level of Allegheny General Hospital. Two to three Orthopedic attendings operate in the surgery center daily, scheduling between three and fourteen cases each. The main services utilizing the surgery center include hand, sports, foot and ankle and general orthopedics. Typical cases include arthroscopy, routine fracture work, carpal tunnel, etc.
Turn over time in the surgery center averages 25 to 30 minutes, allowing for efficient flow of operative cases.
Suburban Campus
The Allegheny General Hospital Suburban Campus consists of 6 surgical suites that have been newly remodeled for Orthopaedics. The facility is approximately 7 miles from AGH and provides the Department of Orthopaedics an additional venue for mainly outpatient surgery. Sports, Pediatrics, and Hand and Upper-Extrremity Surgery perform a large amount of outpatient surgery here. All inpatient pediatrics is at the Suburban Campus as well.
