The Emergency Department at AGH is located on the second floor. It consists of 30 treatment rooms, three dedicated trauma bays with a portable ultrasound unit, a high speed CT scanner, and a radiology suite. The ED is split into two sides based on the availability of in room monitoring. Eleven treatment rooms and the three trauma bays are equipped with in room monitoring and facilitate management of the acutely and critically ill patient.
The south side of the ED houses the remaining treatment rooms, including a four bed Orthopedic procedure room. In general, the south side of the ED sees more of the “urgent care” population that are sick but do not need cardiac or pulmonary monitoring. Conscious sedation is available in the ED for the reduction and immobilization of most common fractures and dislocations. Splinting and casting material is readily available in the procedure room.
Common procedures performed in the emergency room include arthrocentesis, reduction of fractures and dislocations, irrigation and debridement of wounds and open fractures, wound closure, and revision of digital amputation.
